什么是网络配置？(a network configuration?)
网络配置是某种类型通信网络的总体设计。作为该配置的一部分，软件和硬件的布置方式允许在两个或多个点之间传输语音、音频和数据的过程达到最佳效率。网络配置可能是本地的，并且在某种程度上是包含的，或者涉及在全国甚至全世界找到的位置或节点的集合。
所有网络配置方法都需要各种形式的硬件和软件。硬件作为网络的框架，有效地为整体结构创建基础。上载并安装相互兼容且与硬件兼容的软件应用程序，这是一项启动网络活动的操作，允许高效存储和检索所有类型的数据。
有许多不同类型的网络，每种网络都需要某种类型的组织或网络配置才能正常运行。例如，小型办公室内的本地网络将包括允许语音通信的电话设备、为语音、视频和数据交换提供互联网连接的电缆馈线，以及至少一台帮助协调和处理与网络相关的所有功能的服务器。除了服务器之外，台式计算机、各种类型的无线设备和备份设备（如辅助服务器）也是此基本网络配置中的常见组件。
家庭网络配置也采用相同的一般方法。这里，网络可以由主计算机组成，主计算机作为网络上的主要活动点。辅助硬件（如打印机和外部驱动器）也可能包含在整个网络设置中。如今，许多配置包括无线调制解调器，使得在主站有限范围内与笔记本电脑和其他无线设备共享到互联网的单一高速连接成为可能。
大型公司通常需要计算机网络配置，允许多个位置作为一个大型网络进行交互。这种设置的一种常见方法是使用各种形式的硬件和软件在公司总部创建主网络，并允许远程位置通过无线或有线互联网连接到此主网络。通过这种性质的配置，远程站点可以完全独立运行，同时还可以根据需要从主网络发送和接收数据。
