什么是无线网络？(a wireless network?)
顾名思义，无线网络是一个由计算机和计算机外围设备组成的网络，它们之间没有电线连接。这使得通信变得容易，特别是对于移动计算平台。此外，无线网络还有许多其他优势，使其在工作场所和家庭中越来越普遍。
世界上几乎所有的无线网络都采用由电气和电子工程师协会制定的标准，即802.11标准。根据所涉及的技术，有几个小节。这些通常列在随附材料的包装上，让用户了解装置拥有的技术的速度和范围。
例如，当查看无线路由器时，该路由器支持网络上不同计算机之间的通信，它可能被标记为802.11（b）。当无线网络技术开始流行时，许多路由器都带有这个名称。由于技术的年代久远，它比目前可用的便宜，但仍然可以使用。它的最大传输速率为每秒11兆比特（Mbps）。
自从该技术上市以来，其他无线网络标准也被引入。其中包括802.11（g）和802.11（n）。每一种都分别代表了下一代技术。（g）标准增加了射程和速度，允许高达54 Mbps。（n）标准不仅允许良好的范围和更高的速度，而且能够更好地抵抗来自其他无线源的干扰。所有802.11标准都使用无线电信号进行通信。
除了这些用于更有限地理区域的源之外，WiMax是另一种类型的无线网络。这种类型的网络依赖于视线，但只要视线不被遮挡，它就可以延伸数百英里或数公里。然而，为了使通信成为可能，这项技术依赖于更大的天线和转换器。即使数据通过WiMax网络传输，在到达计算机工作站之前也可能通过802.11标准网络。
