什么是神盔？(a god helmet?)
可伦头盔，更广为人知的神头盔，是一种戴在头上的装置，它利用磁场刺激大脑的颞叶。它是由Stanley Koren在Dr。加拿大安大略省劳伦斯大学的迈克尔·佩辛格。在实验中戴着上帝头盔的人经常报告说感觉到房间里有一种模糊的存在，有些人报告说有更生动和深刻的感觉和视觉。这个装置提出了一些有关宗教和神秘体验本质的有趣问题。。
上帝头盔的每侧都安装了一系列四个线圈，最初是装在摩托雪橇头盔中的，但后来变成了一种可以在没有头盔的情况下绑在头上的装置。计算机通过数模转换器（DAC，通常称为黑匣子）提供的信号依次激活这些线圈，产生复杂的磁信号来刺激大脑的颞叶。另外一组线圈最初安装在头盔顶部，但在以后的版本中没有使用。复杂的磁信号有一个不规则的形状，计算机用来调节这个形状。神头盔的计算机软件是由科伦发明的。。
使用上帝头盔的实验是在隔音室内进行的。颞叶在宗教或神秘体验中活动，也负责监测周围的声音。结果在安静的环境中，使用上帝头盔的效果显著提高。
受试者经常被戴头盔的经历所感动。80%的参与者表示感觉到模糊的存在，1%的人表示感觉到上帝。关于参与者是否会自由承认在实验室环境中感觉到上帝存在一些问题。已经报道的其他神秘或宗教体验包括感知或看到灵魂、天使、恶魔、死去的亲属和其他神秘幻象，包括体外体验。
一些受试者没有经历过任何存在。理查德·道金斯（Richard Dawkins）是一位作家，也是一位直言不讳的宗教批评家。当他戴上上帝头盔时，他只感到头晕和腿抽搐。佩辛格博士说，他相信有些人天生就有这种感觉。
