什么是总帐？(a general account?)
“一般账户”一词在保险和证券交易中有两种不同的用法。就保险业而言，一般账户是保险公司可用于支付的全部账户。在证券交易中，普通账户是保证金账户的另一个术语；联邦储备委员会使用“一般账户”一词来指代此类账户，其中的活动受条例T的限制，该条例由联邦储备委员会起草。。
从保险的角度来看，一般账户包括各种资产。客户在该账户中没有股份或权益，保险公司可以以其认为合适的方式运营该账户，目的是增加现有资金，使其能够支付费用。保险公司可能会选择投资一些普通账户。当有人提出索赔时，公司会提供资金，前提是其对索赔的调查确定客户有权获得付款。。
保险公司确实给客户带来了风险。人们在支付保单时理解到，资金将用于支付负债。如果一家保险公司破产，其客户的保险就失去了。评级机构定期检查保险公司，以得出信用风险评级，这样人们就知道金融专家对一家公司的评估有多可靠。这让人们可以决定如何以及在哪里购买保险。
对于证券交易员来说，普通账户是一个账户，经纪公司的客户可以通过该账户获得信贷。信贷活动必须在一般账户中进行，账户中的活动必须仔细记录。投资者拥有其普通账户的内容，如果需要，可以选择关闭账户并提取资金。经纪人有一个利益，允许他们扣押部分或全部内容，以支付未付的账单。经纪人还可以发出追加保证金通知，要求人们在信用风险增加时将更多资产存入账户，以偿还债务。。
人们有权从经纪人处获得其普通账户中的详细活动账目，经纪人应提供定期报表。如果发现异常情况，建议尽快解决。在最近的可疑交易中，查清其真相要容易得多，因为可以更快速、更容易地追踪它们。
