什么是天坛？(the temple of heaven?)
天坛是中国北京道观建筑的集合体。它是联合国教科文组织的世界遗产，自1998年以来一直是世界遗产。天坛也被称为天坛，偶尔也被称为天地殿。
实际上，天坛占地675英亩（275公顷），是紫禁城的三倍多。祈祷丰收的祭坛是这个建筑群的中心，高125英尺（38米），宽100英尺（30米）。其他主要地点还包括天坛中心、皇家天穹和圆形山祭坛。天坛中心是从天坛发出回声的地方。
天坛是15世纪初由永乐皇帝建造的，他是一位了不起的建造者，也是紫禁城的建造者。16世纪，嘉靖皇帝扩建了天坛，并修建了月宫、太阳宫和地球宫。
天坛对中国皇帝来说非常重要。中国皇帝的头衔之一是天子，皇帝的权力是从天上来的。为了表示尊敬，皇帝被要求向天堂献祭，特别是为了保证好收成。
天坛是为了方便皇帝祭天而修建的，每年他都会带着皇室随从到天坛进行两次非常特殊的仪式。在此期间，该党没有人吃肉，也没有平民被允许进入。皇帝被要求严格执行仪式，每一个小错误都被视为灾难降临整个中国的原因。在20世纪初，中华民国总统在寺庙举行了仪式祈祷，这是成为皇帝的更大计划的一部分。。
天坛作为一个整体充满了象征意义，在很大程度上代表了我们的世界和天界之间的关系。庙里有三个梯田，每一个梯田都被皇帝用于不同的祭祀和祈祷。第一个平台象征着地球，第二个象征着人，第三个象征着天堂本身。
为了迎接2008年北京奥运会的到来，天坛得到了实质性的修复，看起来很新鲜。这个地方不仅受到外国游客的欢迎，也受到中国人的欢迎。中国人经常聚集在这里打牌、剑拔弩张、表演传统的戏剧形式。这里的气氛既恭敬又好玩，许多人认为这是北京之行的亮点之一。
